What Is Plica Syndrome?
Plica syndrome is a knee condition where one of the thin folds of the synovial membrane
(the soft tissue lining inside the joint) becomes irritated, thickened, and
sometimes scarred. These folds are called plicae, and when one of them stops
moving smoothly, you may feel pain, snapping, or a catching sensation around the inner side
of the kneecap.
The synovial membrane wraps around the knee joint and produces the fluid that lubricates
it. Before birth, the knee develops in separate compartments divided by small folds in this
