Education & Medical Background
Dr Wang Mingchang is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician with full
specialist accreditation in both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine, the only
doctor in Singapore with dual accreditation.
He graduated in 2008 from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of
Singapore (YLLSoM, NUS). He has worked across various healthcare clusters and spent over
13 years with the National University Health System (NUHS), primarily at the National
University Hospital (NUH).
He specialises in the non-surgical management of sports and exercise-related
injuries, with expertise in extracorporeal shockwave therapy and
ultrasound-guided injections.

We do not just treat sports and exercise-related injuries but also aim to address their root causes. Whilst returning to sport is an important goal, it is more important to prevent injury recurrence.
Specialist Training & Leadership Roles

In 2014, Dr Wang was appointed the inaugural Chief Resident of the NUH Family
Medicine Residency Programme. He has managed a broad spectrum of patients,
from non-athletes to national athletes, with both acute and overuse
injuries.
During his specialist training at NUH, he played a key role in establishing sports
medicine services. This included extracorporeal shockwave therapy,
ultrasound-guided procedures, Platelet-Rich
Plasma (PRP) injections, and exertional compartment pressure testing.
Academic and Teaching Roles
Dr Wang has been involved in medical education for over a decade.
He is a Visiting Lecturer in Sports Medicine at YLLSoM, NUS, and a faculty member in the
NUH Family Medicine Residency Programme. He has mentored students and trainees in the
musculoskeletal field, and conducted injury prevention workshops for NUS athletes.
He also tutors for the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine at the College of Family
Physicians Singapore and leads annual ultrasound courses at the Alexandra Academy of
Clinical and Emergency Sonography. He is a member of the Joint Committee of Specialist
Training Exam Committee for Sports Medicine.
From 2018 to 2024, Dr Wang served as a clinical lecturer for the Graduate Diploma in
Sports Medicine at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. During this time, he also
contributed to local sports medicine conferences and peer-reviewed academic
articles.
Beyond academic teaching, he was a member of the Singapore Sport Institute’s Medical
Board from 2020 to 2023 and served as Visiting Consultant to the SAF Medical Corps from
2022 to 2024.
After leaving full-time service at NUH in late 2024, he continues as a Visiting
Consultant within the NUHS cluster. In 2025, he helped establish a
first-of-its-kind Exercise Prescription Clinic at Alexandra Hospital (AH).
Sports Involvement & Personal Interests

Dr Wang was part of the national medical team at the Southeast Asian Games in 2017
and the Asian Games in 2018, supporting athletes across a range of sporting
disciplines. He later served as Chief Medical Officer at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic
Games, overseeing medical care and coordinating support for the Singapore
contingent.
Outside of work, Dr Wang maintains an active lifestyle. He previously
completed a full marathon annually but now focuses more on strength and conditioning.
He regularly attends group fitness classes and participates in Hyrox races for recreation,
aiming to compete at least once a year to stay physically engaged and challenge
himself.
